Yazan Badarny

After completing a degree in computer science, Yazan (our creative founder) chose an unconventional path, opting for an unpaid internship at a tech startup in Cape Town, rejecting a well-paying software engineering job. This decision was motivated by the need to escape the mundane and explore the world, enhance language skills, forge meaningful connections, and gain diverse work experiences. Little did he know, this decision would become the catalyst for HomeAwe.

During his transformative 6 months internship in Cape Town, where he turned down a higher-paying job offer, he realized that being confined to a desk as a software engineer wasn't his passion. Yazan dreamed to create a platform that would blend his love for traveling, volunteering, storytelling and building a community of like-minded individuals seeking unique experiences and personal growth.

In his quest to advocate for international volunteering opportunities, he traveled extensively across Europe, promoting volunteer programs on various platforms. However, Yazan noticed a void that potential volunteers lacked adequate information and reassurance about the experiences. To address this gap, he left his job, took off to Instagram, and became a volunteer backpacker, content creator and an influencer, embodying the essence of HomeAwe.

Through our programs/experiences either it’s volunteering or a trip, the participants will get out of their comfort zone, challenge themselves, adapt, accept and they will be exposed to different culture, different thinking, new ideas and go back home with strong mentality for a new start/change in their own lives and in their own society/community
